Inside jokes develop out of shared experiences. Unlike stock jokes or laughs derived from pop culture, the individuals need to be present together at the same place and time to have an in-joke between them. The fun, then, becomes personal – outsiders cannot derive pleasure from it as they don’t understand what makes it funny.

When you have an inside joke with your partner, it means the both of you share the same sense of humor. Compatibility is of course, important in a relationship. If you found your partner’s sense of humor drab and vice versa, the relationship would certainly take a hit

An inside joke is a throwback to the times you and your partner have shared. It makes you nostalgic and reminds you of how long you’ve been with your partner and how you’ve been together despite the hardships. These inside jokes serve as a subtle reminder to practice gratitude towards your partner’s loyalty and dedication to you.

It makes you laugh. A couple that laughs together stays together. Joy and laughter are crucial to a relationship. If you can still tickle your partner’s funny bone, it means you have less to worry about your relationship. Forgot to do a chore you’d been requested? Maybe, it’s time to bring out that tried and tested inside joke. Is your partner feeling drained after a long and trying day at work? No better time to bust out that inside joke.

Inside jokes also lighten up your mood when you and your partner are going through a rough patch in your relationship. As discussed above, it recalls a more pleasant time and instills hope into both your hearts that you will share happiness and good times again. The problems at hand are temporary, but the love you share for your partner is lasting.
